Title: Pile up
Medium: Found Objects
Size: 140.97 x 91.44 cm (Table)
For this project. I chose spoons as the found object to represent the balance of life. In society today, many things are rushed. From those things, it doesn't come out how we would want. They try to build and build to overcome the problem and don't take it easy, at the end, it won't work and collapse because the work was to weak. Just like the spoons, they try and try, they come one by one to build support, but end up falling.

Process
When we were introduced to this project, I didn't get the idea of what I should do. Then I started to research for ideas through the power point that my class and I were shown. Then I saw and artist called Stuart Haygarth and Andy Goldsworthy who gave me an idea. I wanted to show a different meaning of objects for what they are not seen for and make it have a deeper meaning. I the had the idea to use spoons as a way to show that they are not a good support to build something out of them for support or, in other words, they wont be as strong and balanced to stand still. I had trouble at first creating it. With trying to make the spoons not to fall and not moving the table so much. Then I tried to make it smaller and not to tall like the way I wanted like. I had a new idea to show how it would grow by spreading spoons around the table.

1st attempt to do my project
|
2nd attempt and final
|
1. Brainstorm
I had different ideas other than my final product. They had a similar meaning towards what I wanted it to look like. I wrote down possible ideas to what I can create. |
2. Planning Sketch
After viewing and thinking from my ideas, I started to sketch drawings of the structure of the project. My materials were the same, it involved plastic. For the first 2, my idea was to use plastic bottles and for my third sketch, it was spoons. |
3. Creating
Finally, I had to think about which sketch and idea I wanted to go with. I wasn't sure which one to choose, they were all ideas I was interested to create. But, after thinking, I chose to do. |
Artist Inspiration
For this project, I was inspired by artist Stuart Haygarth. His work inspired me to create the project I did. What inspired me from both was the items they used and the pattern. In Haygarth's art the "Sharp Project" , he used sharp objects from an airport to send a message about terrorism. They were placed in a pattern like way. The way he placed the items, gave me the idea of how to use my items. My way was to place about 8 spoons on top of each other in a square and placing them in different ways each time. Then Show a pattern of those spoons around the stacked one's. Like in a way they are trying to build something. |
Reflection
The day we were introduced to this project, I didn't quite get what the project was supposed to be about. As time passed my teacher gave the class more information about what it was about. Then I understood the project a little more than I did. I looked through the power point that was presented to me and then found ideas with the art of Stuart. After that I didn't have trouble with this project other than the troubles I went through with my structure falling and falling. But at the end it turned out better.

Meaning of My Piece
I designed a pile of spoons scattered and placed together to make it more than they are. My idea for it was to represent a part of me and what a lot of students face today. Each spoon represents a problem or something that has to be done. Many students today, wait until the very last minute to make that happen. It all Piles up, but, it will all collapse and not work because we didn't put enough time and effort to make it happen. It's the symbol of the spoon that they are meant to use for eating and not for building. The weakness and lack of balance of the spoon to be able to repair a building of ideas, will not work. Students today procrastinate a lot, alike me.
