Title: Lost Feathers
Medium: Wire Size: 22 x 11 cm Exhibition Text:
I intended to create a bird out of wire. I wrapped the wire around cardboard to get the shape of a bird with no feathers. It represents the struggle of losing something that was very important in life that helped you strive to do what you were meant to do. Much like a bird without it's true wings can't do anything. Without that, now what can you do. |
Process
The process for this project was to create something that is organic that is made of industrial items or the other way around. When I was introduced to the project I had already gotten an idea of what to do. I wanted to do a bird like I did to show how not having feathers for a bird, has the same effect as humans when they lose something important. At first I wanted a more flexible wire to be able to round it up so it could get the shape that I wanted. But I didn't have access to those materials but I was able to use wire that my dad provided me from his materials that at the end worked good enough with some struggles for me to get the shape of the bird.

Brainstorm
Like any other project, brainstorm ideas for the project. For this one, I had to make something organic out of industrial items or the other away around. Also make sure it connects with some meaning, even what you use could be used for that purpose. |
Sketching
When I had all my ideas set, I started to sketch out the things I had in mind of making. All my ideas where making something organic out of industrial items. I decided to make a total of 4 sketches for this project. With only 1 being industrial with organic materials. |
Final Product
After I thought of which idea I wanted to go with, I then gathered my materials. I Decided to make it out of wire and wrap it around something to get the form I wanted which was a bird. |

Inspiration
For this piece my inspiration was my culture. I thought of all the things that have happened around me, the bad things that make me not want to stand up again. Much like the bird I created. Where Birds soar through the sky but when it lost it wings it can't fly anymore. Just like when someone gives up. I was also inspired by my religion. I based it on the Holy Spirit, it said to look like a dove, for Catholic's a hope and for us to pray for and see as guidance. |
Meaning of My Piece
For this piece I focused on having strength after something bad happened. Like I said before, when birds lose their feathers, they are not that able to fly. I thought the same thing for when people lose something they holded with a lot of meaning and importance to them that helped them give up on in life. And after they lose them, they can't or some can't get back up. The material also helps identify the meaning. Being metal, something like that can't fly without support. Like a plane can't fly without its parts like engine, wings and all things that make it function. Basically saying the support we have that isn't there makes us weak and not want to keep on going.

Reflection
Making my Organic vs Industrial didn't take me long to make. The hard part was finding how to get the shape for it. I didn't have a hard time coming up with ideas, the problem was finding how to create it. I holded back on this project until we needed to have it done after the deadline. That was the hard thing because it didn't give me enough time to make it. Then I got the idea to make a cut out of the bird and then wrap the wire around it to get the form of the bird. I used cardboard because I didn't have anything else to use. It was somewhat hard because it kept folding (the cardboard) but I managed to make it work. It took me about it 1 hour for the project.
