Title: Only Me #2
Medium: Paint on Canvas Size: 36 x 36 Exhibition Text For the self portrait I kept the same resemblance of my inspiration in pop art. I used four different colors, orange , red, green, and blue. I used acrylic paints and those colors to bring out the image I would paint out using white to show it different from the rest of the colors. The purpose is to focus on who is there for like myself like my digital collage. Using the same aspect of the meaning of it and making it more different. |
Process
In the process of completing this piece, I found it some what difficult to create a theme and how my project was going to be. I wasn't able to finish completing the self-portrait with all that I had left was to draw out my face in the canvas. I needed to manage my time more and not procrastinate and start at the last minute in my future projects.

1. Brainstorm
Brainstorm ideas for the self-portrait. Think about what do you want it to represent about you, does it have a deep meaning?, or did you challenge yourself in creating something you never done before that you wanted to try. |
2. Planning
Start sketching out ideas of how can your self-portrait look out. It could be simple but just an outline of what you vision it could be. |
3. Final Sketch/Process Work
Show your final sketch and outline it on the canvas you are creating. Use the right size and stretch your canvas and remember to gesso the canvas. then start painting the colors on your canvas that you want to use. |
Artist Inspiration
For my self-portrait, I was again inspired by the Pop Art Movement and the artist from the movement, Andy Warhol. I like this movement and it really inspired me a lot. What I like about it is that the colors bring out the meaning of the artwork more because they are more brighter in his piece of "Marilyn " where he shows her face more with the bright colors he used. So what I tried to use was the same aspect but with the lateness of me starting the project, I didn't have time to complete that many detail and blending. But with 4 different colors I wanted to bring out the picture at least with 4 square's and draw my face around it to bring out the canvas. |
Reflection
In my self-portrait, I wish I had made many changes on it. First of all, my mistakes on the self-portrait such as not completing it on time. I started it really late and only had time to color in the 4 squares. For next semester, I hope I get the chance to make changes and add my face on the canvas. Also I would have like to make my strokes more cleaner and left out no white spaces and make sure everything sharp and clean and straight. It was difficult at first to make the canvas because I didn't know how to start the canvas out. Also I would have like to make my canvas stronger and have added more gesso because it was loose. At the end, I need to start managing my time more wisely next semester so I could get my projects done and finished on time and clean. |
Meaning Behind My Piece
The meaning behind my piece, I want it to be similar to my digital collage piece. It would mean that it is all about me. The four colors represent things about me. It represents me. Its colorful to represent positive things that I lived through, where as It's more of personal views, where I stand out for me. Or in other words what I feel is happy. The four colors represent that one colorful story that I'm trying to find. The story that makes me who I am to show what truly makes me feel positive of my self where it is what I am trying to find out in this piece. It's kind of like my digital collage piece "Only Me", where the self-portrait is also about one me in four different ways that I'm trying to find, in one own story. I intend to show this in my piece and try to get people to understand what I want it to mean to myself and what I will reflect on it in my life and show a different thing in me That I want to understand.
