Title: Devil and Angel
Medium: Drawing Size: 11 x 8 in Exhibition Text: This piece is the artist's attempt to drawing. The piece is two represent the two sides within a person and how that is shown within the person. It resembles half of an angel and the other a devil to portray the good side of a person and the bad side of a person and how that affects the person. The artist wants to convey how no person is perfect because we all have good and bad in ourselves. |
Process
This is my first aproach into trying a different medium other than always doing some sort of painting or printing. I wanted to try the medium of drawing. My idea was to portray two halves of a person and I aproached it by drawing it out but I did not like quite how it came out. I started out by drawing it in my sketchbook and I sketched out the size of the head. After that I began my drawing the right half of the face the angel ring, hair, eyes, mouth, the word and the wing of the angel to show an angel and how they are portrayed as saints. Meaning that they are not bad at all. Then I did the left side and basically did the same idea but different. Later on, I made another atempt to make the drawing and I think it came out much better than my first attempt of drawing what I wanted. |

Inspiration
My inspiration for this piece is more of a cultural inspiration. My inspiration comes from my religion which I have used multiple times through out my work. I utilized from my religion of what we see through each person where they know that everyone has made mistakes because everyone sins but we have also made good choices and actions. This all comes from my expierence in listening when I am at Church and retreats where they talk about many of these things how no one is perfect in this world because there is good and bad in every human. |
Reflection
I think that I could initially use this as a sketch and later make a better and improved drawing. I want to convey better my message of a sinner on how we all have both good and bad sides in us and shows that we are all human beings that we all make mistakes but we can make up for them. I didn't like quite how it came out because I had a different vision of how I wanted it to look. But thats why this could be my initial aproach and later on improve and do a different drawing based on the same idea but more cleaner and alike where the eyes are alined to be the same and things like that. Later on though I remade the drawing and came out much better. The eyes are now more alined and the same size with each other and made a few changes. But I think it needs more like color and maybe some change but I do not know something for the moment. |
Meaning of my Piece
Through this piece I wanted to try something new within my art that is not painting and I wanted to see if it is a strong area where I could work on. so I decided to do drawing which is something I always wanted to improve. My aproach was to base this drawing of a person where it all came from me. I did not like it as much because it was not how I imagined it would be but I could later on improve and make changes. My meaning through this piece is to convey the idea that each person has a good and bad side in them and represents the whole idea of being a sinner while still being a good person because everyone sins and shows how there is no person who is perfect. The overall message being presented is the two halves that represent someone mentally because that is where we all choose the decisions we came or the thoughts we come up with. The drawing is meant to represent a devil(our bad side) and an angel (our good side). And it is the idea where through them it shows what makes someone be a good person through what many of the things there represent.

ACT Questions
- Clearly explain how you are able to identify the cause-effect relationships between your inspiration and its effect upon your artwork.
The cause of my inspiration on my work is using a cultural inspiration and the effect is that there is not yet an artist inspiration for this drawing. Also how it is represented to religion within culture and what it is representing from that culture. - What is the overall approach (point of view) the author (from your research) has regarding the topic of your inspiration?
The overall approach of the point of view of this work is to show the connection with culture from the inspiration of the work. Religion was the influence for this work on how using two different beings, the good and the bad and how that is how people have always been. - What kind of generalizations and conclusions have you discovered about people, ideas, cultures, etc. while you researched your inspiration?
Generalizations I have made is that in most of my artwork pieces I have used culture and the idea in religion of how there is not anyone perfect alive in this world because we all have good and bad. My research was based on knowledge that I have learned while attending church and classes were I learn lots of things of my beliefs. - What was the central idea or theme around your inspirational research?
The cental idea of my inspirational research was to use my knowledge of the religion I believe and use it on my work. through my work I present different aspects of religion like what kinds of things are involved and how they define how a person is. Where everyone is a sinner and it is shown through this project.
5. What kind of inferences (conclusions reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning) did you make while reading your research?
I made conclusion on my research of what it means to be a sinner. And is every person on this earth because in my religion, we know that there is no perfect person living in this planet and it goes to show that there is a bad side of us that is influenced by many things and not just what seems bad and incorrect. And by knowing that, I wanted to use that concept and make a piece based on it.
