Title: Future City
Medium: Sculpture Size: 12 x 12 Exhibition Text: The purpose of this project was to create a set of buildings and other objects on a wood board. The board had lines cut threw them so it could be set on top of light. And this will show how light reflects on the wood blocks and other objects placed on the board. The design is able to show how a future model of architecture may look or how it now looks. |
Process
Brainstorm
For this project, you have to think about architecture in landscape. Like a part of the city, a town. And think of a way you would like it to look in the future. At least a part of it or a new part that you would like to be added. On the board that you would place the building blocks and other objects that might have interest you. Think of how you would like them to be for a start. |
Planning
For the planning face, you have to sketch your ideas for the cuts on your board. The cuts you make to choose are important, for they will reflect out the light under the board. And how it would look and the light on the buildings will determine how good it was. I created 6 sketches for the cuts. Also, you can sketch your building blocks and other objects you could use and how will you use them.0 |
Final Product
Now, the last step for this project. After I had chosen one of my sketches for the cuts in my board, I began experimenting by placing wood blocks in different places on the wood board. The word board had to be 12 x 12. You have to make it specifically that light is able to bounce from the buildings. |
Inspiration
Robert Lynch, inspired in the creation of this piece in way. He introduced me into this project and along the way, helped to change the way I should change my blocks and/or their positions. As well as a culture. In Mexico, most small towns called "ranchos" or "pueblos", are really in bad shape. And I wanted to make it look better. I also got inspiration from my city of Milwaukee and how I would like a place to look better. Even more from towns or places where their buildings are not in good shape and modern. And how I wanted to make a new way for it to look. |

Meaning Behind My Piece
For this project, my urban landscape was based on a new model for a town. Like I said, Most small towns in Mexico, and also other places in other parts of the world,, face a similar problem. Their houses and other buildings are in bad shape. And they wont be fixed. As I thought of my project, I want to show a future model for the change in those buildings. When I looked at those parts, I was thinking of the center for the city and a new beautiful look for it. And maybe later on look at it for the towns. |
Reflection
The progress of making this project was simple but yet hard. Figuring out the cuts for the board where easy to figure out, but, placing the blocks and figuring out their shapes were also hard to figure out where to place them. The hard part though, was time management. If I had used my time more wisely, I wouldn't have faced a challenge of how I wanted. If I had figured out earlier I wouldn't had to much difficulty and possibly made it better. And when I started doing the project, there weren't much days left until it was due. And what took my time away was when I cut my wood blocks to how I wanted them.
